New Post-It Purse Notes

Posted by Deena on May 9, 2008

Post-It Purse NotesHello! Yeah!! It’s friday! Are you all ready for the weekend?? I sure am! I’m going out tomorrow night for dinner and a movie with Des. Looking forward to it! I need a break from the kids. I always feel a bit guilty saying that, but I do!

I thought I’d show you some of the new styles of Post-It Purse Notes that I’ve made. If you haven’t seen these yet, I wrote a post on how to make these a while back. It seems that this little purse is a hit! I guess everyone’s looking for new ways to use Post-Its! :)

So, if you would like to make one of your own, you’ll find the directions and original post at the top of the page under TUTORIALS. If you have any questions on how to make them, feel free to ask.

If you like them and would like to see more ideas like this in the future, please let me know!

Cake and Coffee Anyone?

Posted by Deena on April 29, 2008

Good morning! Anyone up for some Cake and Coffee? Well before I serve up the cake and coffee I have to do a bit of complaining :(

I’m cooold this morning! It is a rainy dreary day and my furnace seems to have decided that it had a long hard winter and is throwing in the towel! Thank goodness it didn’t decide this a few weeks earlier, or I would really be chattering my teeth! I hate being cold!! Gas Met says they won’t be able to come until tomorrow. Between 7am and 12pm!! Way to narrow it down guys! I only really have to leave the house once tomorrow, to pick up my son from school…so of course, that’s when they’ll come! This is one of my pet peeves. I do not like waiting around for repair people to show up! So, I am now drinking LOTS of HOT coffee and trying to look on the bright side. Really I’m trying.

Cake cheers me up…how about you?

The cake is a case of a Slice of Cake Card by Susan Neal in Paper Crafts magazine. I thought it was such a fun card! It included a pattern, but I did not make this one quite the same way. I made my own template and I took photos of the steps I used to make it, if you want to try one yourself! The coffee mug is my own design/template. You can see that I like big mugs for my coffee! I had previously made a different style mug that I posted on SCS, with the same stir stick sentiment idea. When you pull it out it says …the perfect blend!

Su Paper- fall flowers, Stamps- My Favorite Things- Hot Stuff, SU- Friendship Blooms

Here’s How:

Step 1. Cut a rectangular piece from a chocolate colored card stock measuring 3 1/2″ X 10 1/2″. Score lines at 3 1/2″ and at 7″.

Step 2. Score lengthwise 3/4″ in from side. Only score the outer sections NOT the middle section. So, score from 0 to 3 1/2″ and then from 7″ to 10 1/2″.

Step 3. Cut away the rectangular end pieces created by the scoring.

Step 4. Round the left corner of the raised edge. My corner rounder was too small to use here. To get a nice rounded corner, Use a Toonie or, if you’re not Canadian, try to find a circle a bit larger than a quarter. :) Now cut on an angle using a straight ruler, from the curve to the right to meet the top of scored line. See step 5 photo.

Step 5. Fold left side in first, then right side over to the left. I find folding it this way gives it a nice pointed edge to the slice, with the fatter part of the cake to the left.

Now decorate it in yummy colors and glitter or sparkle and add a candle to the inside panel. I used dp to decorate both folds on the outside. Line the inside panel with a piece of white paper to write your sentiment on. I used a Sakura Stardust pen on the tip of the candle and Stickles for the icing.

Enjoy your cake and coffee!

I made these a while ago, but could not post them until I had given them to my Sis for her birthday! I didn’t want her to see them!

As always, if you have a question or a comment, I’m all ears! (or eyes in this case) :)

Have a great Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by!

Recycle your Ribbon Spools!

Posted by Deena on April 20, 2008

I know we all have a lot of these…ribbon spools! When your ribbon is used up what do you do with the empty spool? How many have you thrown away?? Instead of throwing the next one out… try something like this with it!

This is so easy and fun to do, and it makes a perfect little gift box for something special! Or just use it yourself to keep a few special pairs of earrings, or rings…

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Empty Ribbon spool
  • Toilet paper roll or paper towel roll
  • Stamped or decorative papers
  • Embellishments for the Lid
  • Adhesive
  • circle cutter

First I carefully pulled apart the spool. The top round and bottom round pieces pretty easily came away from the middle spool piece. They tore a little, but I was covering it with dp, so no worries!

I then measured the height (depth) of the inner spool cylinder. I cut a piece off the toilet paper roll, a bit narrower than the depth of the spool cylinder.

Using my circle cutter, I cut dp to fit and cover both sides of the top and bottom of the cylinder piece. Then I calculated the circumference of the cylinder (diameter x 3.14) and cut a strip of dp to cover the outside. I did the same for the toilet paper roll piece. I then glued this piece to the top circle to make the lid. It could now snugly insert into the bottom spool area.

When everything was covered with dp I added the beads, gem brad and prima to the top.

I also sponged any raw edges with a bit of Blue Bayou ink.

I used Chrystal Effects as glue! It is very strong and works like a charm on embellishments! It dries quickly too.

All the dp used on this project is Stampin’ UP! Porcelain Prints.

Post-it Purse Notes

Posted by Deena on April 2, 2008

Is your fridge door anything like mine? If it is, then it’s pretty much covered in photos, children’s artwork and notes! I always need to have a note pad on the fridge, or I am forever hunting for what seems like a scarce commodity: paper! Come on! I make cards! I have paper coming out of my ears…just not the right kind in the right place all the time. Anyway, I wanted to make a magnetic post-it note holder that might actually be pretty on the fridge.

Post-it Purse Notes

Here’s how:

1. I started with two square (4X4 inch) chipboard coasters. Measuring from 1/4 inch in from the top side of your coaster, line your ruler on an angle to the bottom outer edge of the coaster, and cut this angle away with your craft knife. You are simply making the top slightly narrower than the bottom. Do the same with the second coaster.

2.I used the negative embossing technique with my cuttlebug to get the background colour. The embossing was done on a 5 1/4″X4″ piece of blush coloured Bazzill card stock. I have complete details for this technique HERE.

3 . Using the shaped coaster cut the same shape from the embossed paper. Adhere this to the coaster. You can do the same for the back side, or leave the back plain. You may want to finish the back if you want it for a desk top instead of using it as a magnet. It can stand on its own when completed. You may also choose to add a lining paper or stamp the inside of the purse at this point. My coasters were white so I left them white this time.

4. Using the leftover scrap of the embossed piece, cut out the top piece for the purse. Round the bottom corners and adhere a strip of complimentary coloured card stock to the bottom. Give it a decorative edge. I used Fiskar’s scissors for this. You can add an embellishment in the center, like a brad or a flower or ribbon etc. Adhere finished piece to the top of the purse front. Round the corners of the purse panels.

4. To colour the raised part of the embossing, I used chalks with sponge daubers. For more on Chalking see HERE .

6. Using an eyelet setter or CROP A DILE (We R Memory Keepers) punch and set your 4 eyelets to both panels of the purse. They should be approximately 1/4 ” from the top and 1/2 ” in from the sides. Attach the ribbon handle with tacky tape to the backside of the front panel of the purse. Then tie two shorter pieces through the front and the back and knot at the front to hold the two panels together. Allow enough ribbon give between the two panels to accommodate the size of the post-it note pad that will be inside.

7. Flip open and tacky tape the back of the post-it note pad to the inside bottom panel of the purse. Add a magnet to the back of the note-purse.

YOU’RE DONE! ENJOY!

The post-it note pad can easily be replaced once used up.

Have a great night!
