Blue Bayou Thank You

Posted by Deena on May 16, 2008

Hello everyone! I have a new project or two in the works, but for today I will share a card with you that I made a while back. I forgot to upload it to my gallery on SCS, so I thought I’d put it up here. It was a thank you for a friend who gave me some wonderful stamped images.

The blossom is a favorite of mine from My Favorite Things, stamped in Blue Bayou ink, cut out and popped up on dimesionals. The small decorative blossoms are stamped directly onto the dp, as well as the sentiment and swirl stamp. All edges are sponged lightly with Wild Wasabi. I really love these colors! Blue Bayou is probably my favorite SU color!

Stamps- Boho Blossoms My Favorite Things, Stampin’ Up! Sentiment

Paper- Soft Sky Stampin’ Up! , Memory Box dp, Blue Bayou Stampin’ Up!

Ink- Purely Pomegranate SU, Blue Bayou SU, Wild Wasabi SU

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have a great day !

In Color

Posted by Deena on May 14, 2008

floralHello! Half way through the week and so looking forward to the long weekend! I get to stamp with a friend I met through SCS on Monday! I can’t wait! She does some gorgeous color washes on her cards and her cards are so unique and beautiful! If you’re heading on over to SCS, have a peek at her gallery! Miss Apple is her Nom de Plume!

Today I have two cards to share with you!

The first one is the card I made yesterday for the color challenge on SCS. The colors we were challenged to use were Pumpkin Pie, Ruby Red, and Soft Sky. Well I love this combo! Who’d a thought? I decided not to use any dp on this one. I simply stamped the base cream card with my CHF Floral Backgrounder in Ruby Red. I went in with ink and a blender pen to give it some depth by adding color to a few random flowers and leaves. The main image is a gorgeous bloom also from CHF. I inked it up with Pumpkin Pie and stamped it on a cream base. Then I added some lines of Ruby Red and Soft sky dots around its center.

I love how it turned out! Simple, yet bold and pretty, don’t you think?!

Stamps- Cornish Heritage Farms

Paper- Ruby Red text. cs, cream cs

Inks- Pumpkin Pie, China Blue distress (No soft sky left), Ruby Red, Certainly Celery

Accessories- Blender Pen

I made this card using the Friday Sketchers first ever sketch! You have to have a look at this site! Every Friday they will post a new sketch and already with their first one, over 100 people have linked up their cards! Claudia from Pretty Pressings started us all off with this first sketch! They are a group of stampers sampling their work while each representing their different countries! What a great idea and what a wonderful sampling of styles too! Be sure to have a look!

So, for this card I stamped directly on the Close to Cocoa base with yet another terrific background stamp from Cornish Heritage Farms. The hedgehog is stamped in Close to Cocoa ink, then chalked in with some more Close to Cocoa, and Creamy Caramel. I used my fineliner pens to outline the butterfly’s body and to add dots to the points of the hedgie’s spikes. The butterfly is chalked in Pretty in Pink.

I used a pink ribbon and a beautiful Esprit Prima flower with a small flower brad center, for embellishment.

The sentiment ” We’re In this Together” is from My Favorite Things! I thought it might be a good card for the Breast Cancer Weekend fund raiser that I am making cards for.  What do you all think?

Thanks for stopping by and thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my previous cards! It is so encouraging to hear from you all! I’m so happy that you are enjoying them and I hope they are inspiring you too!

Watercolour flowers

Posted by Deena on May 13, 2008

Goodmorning!

I hope you all had a good weekend and a wonderful Mother’s Day!

I had a wonderful Mother’s day. It was sunny and warm and we spent most of the day outside. The boys were very sweet to me and I was spoiled all day! I now have a spa day to look forward to as well!

This card is the result of combining two challenges from SCS. The inspiration challenge from Saturday featured some beautiful sun catchers from the Dreaming in Color website, which really sparked my imagination. Then, yesterday, the technique challenge asked us to emboss and watercolor. This is the inspiration piece, Revelation

I used a mix of watercolor techniques. For the smaller flowers I stamped them in Summer Sun ink, then used watercolor markers to highlight and shade with a blender brush. The large sunflower on the left was done by using watercolor marker directly applied to the stamp after it was inked with summer sun. I then went in and blended a bit with the blender brush after it was stamped. The butterfly is inked, and highlighted with watercolor marker by thumping. Then I further blended the colors with the blender pen on the paper. I used the watercolor markers direct to paper for the grass leaves and stems, and blended on the paper.

I embossed all the images in stages. I brayered the sky and landscape using post it notes to mask areas. I also added in some sponging in the sky and the base. Thanks to Michelle Zindorf for the inspiration and general technique for this! Check out her blog for detailed tutorials! She has the most beautiful brayered scenes!

Hope you all have a creative day!

To Grandma’s House We Go!

Posted by Deena on May 12, 2008

It’s my Mom’s birthday today, and I was planning on giving this card to her from my boys. I made the card with that intent, but I ended up sending her another card instead. So, now I’m thinking I will save it for her for another day…”just because”. I think it’s always nice to get a card for no particular reason except that someone was thinking about you.

I used a lot of SU stamps for this one. I have loved the All in the Family set since the first day I looked at an SU catalog! I finally bought it, with my discount, since I’m a demo now! I also bought the Family Accessories set and the Family Phrases!

I really wanted to do a scene with the set and this is what I came up with. The card is folded into three sections. It measures 3 1/4 inches wide by 6 1/4 inches tall. I use my circle cutting system to cut away the tops of the front two panels to get the sloping landscape.

The first shortest panel is sponged in Wild Wasabi, stamped with the flower from Family Accessories and another flower from Inkadinkado.

The second tallest panel is stamped in two corners with the little summer tree from A Tree For All Seasons.

The main panel is stamped using the Neighborhood jumbo wheel, an inkadinkado flower, and the kids are pieced together using the stamps from All in The Family. The little boy is holding the flower from the accessories set.

All the images were coloured using SU inks and blender pens. I used a white gel pen for the windows of the houses. The path was created using Kelly Panacci stitch stamps. They are clear stamps so I was able to curve it a bit on the acrylic block and stamp it twice for the length of the card. I then sponged in the path. I left out the sentiment, since I wasn’t sure if it was going to say Happy Mother’s Day or Happy Birthday, since for my mom, they are a day apart this year. Which in the end was just as well since I didn’t use it for either!

Inks- Wild Wasabi, Summer Sun, Bashful Blue, Brocade Blue, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Pumpkin Pie, Garden Green, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Ruby Red, Certainly Celery

I had so much fun creating this little scene!

Hope you like it too!

Have a good day everyone!
