Inspired Artisans: Renee (The Hobo Train)

I’d like to introduce Renée for our Inspired Artisans Friday Feature!

Welcome Renée!

Tell us a little about yourself…

I’m an independent artisan who makes crossbody hobo bags and upcycled hats and clothing (clothing to be launched soon on Etsy!!!).  I live in Montreal, Canada.  I love music, art, animals, and anything awe-inspiring.  I’ve been in business making textile creations since 2006.  I love when one of my items finds its rightful new home.  :o)

What handmade product do you to sell on Etsy and what is the name of your shop?

I sell crossbody hobo bags and upcycled hats.  My shop name is The Hobo Train.  I will be debuting my new upcycled clothing collection on Etsy soon.

Do you sell your work elsewhere?

I sell my work at festivals and craft fairs in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec (Canada).

Can you share a few of your favourite items here with us?

 1)  https://www.etsy.com/listing/99404267/zebra-print-bag-hobo-bag-long-strap  I LOVE this fabric!  It is sassy, bold, colorful, funky, and original all at once.
2)  https://www.etsy.com/listing/99463871/cross-body-bag-shoulder-bag-paisley-hobo  This purple paisley bag is dreamy and wild.

3)  https://www.etsy.com/listing/94170271/slouchy-hobo-bag-crossbody-bag-shoulder  This is one of my faves… it is plain and sweet.

Who or what inspires you to create?

Music inspires me.  The people around me (friends and loved ones) inspire me.  Learning inspires me.  Hearing about amazing things and people is inspiring, too.

Can you describe your creative process?

I employ my instinct primarily and try not to be cerebral when I’m creating.  My brain gets in the way sometimes.  lol

What advice might you give to other artisans or potential etsy sellers?

Baby steps.  You will get there.  Don’t look too far ahead.  Just focus on the next step.  There is not a lot of encouragement given to artists in our society, so it usually feels like a blind path we’re following and it is easy to become discouraged.  Keep people around you who are supportive and steer clear of the naysayers and those who prophesy doom when you’re trying to accomplish something they don’t understand.  Do what you want.

Where else can we connect with you?

Thanks Renee for sharing with us today!
