Proud of my Little Lion

My son is just finishing up a 10 week reading program in French as a second language and he reached a level beyond the target for the program!  We are so proud of him and I thought I’d make him a bookmark as a little gift.  His birthday is this week too, he’s turning 7!  I always give my boys a few special books as graduation gifts at the end of the school year,  so I know he’ll be happy to have it. This week at Crafty Creations Peggy has given us a themed OVER THE RAINBOW challenge inspired by the song from Wizard of Oz.   Perfect! My son LOVES rainbows! The image is COURAGEOUS CARL from our sponsor this week; Whimsy Stamps!   I drew in the rainbow and clouds myself as I didn’t have one to use.  The back is stamped with a “This book belongs to” sentiment from Unity  and ” You amaze me” from Verve stamps. Recipe Cards Revisited

I was looking through Somerset Life magazine (Spring 2011) and was treated to some really inspiring ideas!  There was a particular one that really caught my attention, where Diane Rose Geer (Romancing the Recipe Card) had turned some vintage recipe cards that she had purchased (cast off  by someone else), into Cookbook Bookmarks! I instantly new that I had a sentimental interest in trying this project out myself.  About 13 years ago, shortly after I got married,  my wonderful Grandmother lovingly gathered together a collection of hand written recipe cards as a gift for me, that she and other family members had been cooking from for years.  These are recipes that I grew up with; comfort food, cookies, and cakes passed down from my Great Grandmother, my Grandmother,  my Aunts, and my own Mother.  All of them hand written with little notes, and dates and names in the corners, smudges and all! I was very touched and appreciative of the gift,  but over the years they have spent too much of their time (I’m ashamed …

Bookmarks For Your Favorites

I so enjoy a good book, and almost as much, I love a pretty bookmark! The color combo challenge on SCS  inspired me to make this bookmark  and I really love how it turned out! I stamped the Flourishes bird in Archival Black Ink, along with the sentiment Fly Away With Me, directly onto the Basic Grey dp.  I layered it on Always Artichoke card stock and Basic Black Cs.  The top is shaped using a tag punch. Here’s another style of  bookmark that I am really enjoying lately too.  Have a look, I first saw this style on StampingMathilda’s blog and just thought they were such a unique, lovely idea! Have a lovely and creative day!
