A Natural Shimmer

I made this last week while stamping with my friend Peggy.  We decided to play with glimmer mists.   I love  the the effects that can be achieved with these!  You always get a different look depending on the colors you mix,  and you can use just about anything as a mask to create designs on the paper. This time though, instead of masking i used the resist emboss technique to get my pattern on the paper.  I stamped the floral sprigs in Versamark on Fabriano watercolor paper, then embossed them with clear embossing powder.  Next I sprayed randomly with Tattered Angels Glimmer mists in Daffodil, Cinnamon and Coffee Shop.   A quick wipe over the embossed areas, to get them clean and it’s done.  In real life, this background shimmers beautifully.   It’s hard to capture that on camera. I really like the organic feel of this card, what do you think? I took the mojo monday challenge #73 for the sketch, used the top note that Peggy gave me for the main image, layered …

A Dreamer

This fairy image makes me think of when I was a child. There was a field behind my house where my friend and I would spend time playing and dreaming that we were fairies fluttering through the knee deep grass.  Or pretending that we had found our very own  fairy kingdom.   In those moments I really believed in the magical kingdom of fairies.  What fun it is was to immerse myself  in those fantasies!    It has been a while since I’ve believed in fairies, but what I do still believe in, is the magic that comes from simply letting yourself  dream.  Believing in the possibility of something, is often enough. Sweet dreams, my friends!

Celebrating a Passion!

Hi everyone! Sorry I’ve not posted in the last couple of days but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy making cards!  I had a very busy weekend, as I have a friend visiting for the week, which I’m super happy about because I have not seen her in quite a while.  Plus she is pregnant with her first baby!! I couldn’t be more excited for her!! I really didn’t think I would have time to  participate in any World Card Making Day challenges, but I should have known better, since this IS a passion!!  I MADE time!! 😉 I made this card for the Limited Supply Challenge on SCS.  We could not use any patterned papers, or pastels. I had this fabulous stamped image from a friend, and decided she would look stylish in black and white with a hit of color.  So, I colored in the butterfly with glitter gel writers and added the ribbon “shawl”.  Isn’t she chic?  The sea foam colored paper is actually quite shimmery, but it is so hard …

It’s a Wash!

I love this technique! A color wash is simply a mix of diluted colors.  Art supply companies have made it even easier to color wash with sprays like Lumin Arte’s shimmering mists, and Tattered Angels glimmer mists. These have, as their names suggest, a real sparkle to them.  It is hard to capture that in photos, but trust me, this card has a lot of shimmer and shine to it in real life.  These are so fun to play with! When I painted,  I would water down acrylic paints to apply a color wash with paintbrushes.  There is a similar technique explained on Splitcoast Stampers using dye re inkers. For my card I used Lumin Arte’s shimmering mists, spraying them on one over the other,  while still wet. Then I went back in with a paintbrush and ‘pulled’ the water colors around until I was happy with the mixed look I wanted. I could have let it dry at this point on it’s own, but as I’ve mentioned before, I’m impatient! So, I used my …

My first ATC!

That’s right! My first! I made this  a couple of weeks ago for my SBS18 sister for our monthly swap. I don’t know why I haven’t made ATC’s before, they are fun to make! I have to thank Diane, A.K.A miss apple on splitcoast for showing me this background technique! She came over to stamp with me a month ago and showed me her ‘colorwash’ technique. She uses glimmer sprays and mixed ink sprays to spritz watercolor paper. The leaf design is made by laying down a mask ( in this case a plastic leaf) and spritzing over it, then removing it. The other mask is some grid tape! So fun to do! I love how this turned out!
