Cuttlebug Fabric Flower Tutorial

I made a sympathy card for a friend whose father passed away this week, and took inspiration from a few challenges.  One was the black magic technique on SCS,  and another was the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge to make our own flowers. I am not one to use flowers on my cards very often.  The reason for this is that I don’t like a lot of bulk on my cards, and I always find flowers to be so thick.  I mail a lot of my cards and in Canada the postage is not only expensive, it is also very finicky about shape and size etc.  So, I just try to steer clear of bulk.  However, yesterday I decided to try making a  flat fabric flower to see how it would look. 🙂  I’ve tried fabric flowers before, but cutting them was always a challenge.  I think the trick is to use a very light weight but still sturdy material.  I am going to play some more with different materials. I used very sheer polyester fabric …

Sweet Baby Bear

Here’s a baby card I designed for Custom Crops. I wanted it to look like a baby’s bed with baby bear and his teddy all tucked in for the night. I love white bedding even though I know it’s not practical…a girl can dream! If you would like the full details for this card you can find it all HERE. Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a creative day!

Silver Embossed Tags/Tree Ornaments

I made these silver embossed tags tonight and I was originally thinking they would be pretty paper ornaments, but then realized they would be great as tags too.  So maybe I will use them for both. I embossed the Unity bird, and Flourishes sentiment stamp in silver embossing powder.  I also added a little dazzling diamond glitter to the bird for some extra sparkle, tied a sheer purple ribbon and silver cord to the top with an eyelet setting.  The die cut shape is Nestabilities Labels Four. I’ve entered this in the Simon Says “Merry Christmas” challenge where all they wanted us to do was say “Merry Christmas” in some way. 🙂 My friend Rosana whom I’ve met blogging, has asked if I could share some info with you all. This is an appeal to all CAT LOVERS! http://adoteumgatinho.uol.com.br/ Adote um Gatinho (meaning Adopt a Kitten) is a foundation that rescues cats and prepare them for adoption. They have been nominated for a prize and if they receive enough votes by December 28th they will …

An Unconventional Christmas

I’ve made a gatefold card for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge and combined it with the Twisted Sisters challenge on SCS to use unconventional colors for a Christmas card.   Well these colors are definitely not my usual choice for Christmas cards… I stamped the Flourishes wreath in rich cocoa and colored in the berries with Memento potter’s clay marker and copics YG95.  I also added a little shimmer with my Sakura gel pen. The dp is from Crate paper. The card stock is groovy guava and soft sky, and the ribbon is American Crafts. Thanks for stopping by!

A Winter Wonderland!

Crafty Creations Challenge theme this week is METAL/METALLIC FINISHES.   There are many ways to incorporate metal into a card, be it with embossing in silver or gold, using metal embellishments, using metallic papers or adding  punched metal elements like I’ve done here with my snowflakes.  They are punched from a metal craft sheet.  The blossom circle background  is a silver card stock from the Metallic Stack by DCWV. The image is “She Dreams”  from DOODLES BY HOPE JACARE.  Claire will be sponsoring us this week with her very own digital image giveaway!!   She has a beautiful assortment of images in her shop and if you play along in our challenge this week, you might get to choose one along with a few other surprises! I’ve also entered this card in the Pink Persimmon Sketch challenge this week, using their fabulous sketch! Lexi’s Creations is having their first challenge ever and  wanted to see our blue an silver Christmas cards! Here’s a second card I’ve made with the theme as well. I made this card …

Frosty the… Penguin?

We don’t have snow here yet, in fact today was a mild sunny day!  But I know that it is not far off.  If we are really lucky we may have a month before it hits us.   But why am I talking about snow?  Because SNOW is this week’s Crafty Creations theme!  Fresh Brewed Designs is generously sponsoring us again this week and Heather gave us all images to work with for today’s card.  Isn’t this penguin a cutie? I added some Deco Art snowtex to the rim and ball of his tuque.  The background embossing is Spots and Dots, and the scallop circle is embossed with swiss dots.  The green snowflake dsp is from Stampin’ Up! Merry Moments. Come play in the  snow with us at Crafty Creations! Thanks for stopping by, and have a creative day!!

A Little Cup of Happy Hot Cocoa Holder

EDITED:  THERE IS NOW A TUTORIAL available for this… CLICK THIS LINK. Crafty Creations challenge #40 is to make something with a pull out feature! FUN! FRESH BREWED DESIGNS is our fabulous sponsor who let us DT members choose from her digital images to work with this week! They are absolutely adorable! I’m also entering this into the  Die Cut Dreams challenge for the theme of FOOD or DRINK. I decided to make a hot cocoa holder for my pull out feature.  Great for those little pick me up gifts for someone sick this winter (a cup of soup packet would work well) or a sweet treat for anyone! 🙂  I colored the Freshly Brewed image with colorful sharpie markers.  The sentiment is a UNITY stamp from the Hodgepodge of  Happiness set.  The pocket is made from chocolate chip card stock and the snowflakes are  leftover from a borderabilities die cut and some punched flakes  too. I used my nestabilities scalloped rectangle die cuts to frame the image and popped it up on dimensional foam …

White Christmas

Here’s my all white card today for our twisted sister’s challenge.  Shirley (we lovingly refer to her as the bus driver) sets the  challenges and always comes up with something fun! Making an all white card, no image, and only black ink for a sentiment was quite the challenge!  It really inspired me though and this is what I came up with.  Let me know what you think, it was kind of  intimidating at first.  Would you try an all white card? Jump on the bus with us at Splitcoaststampers if you want to, just add TSC1016 to your keywords. I really can’t wait to see what the others have done for this challenge! I’ve layered an embossed panel of white on a card base of white. I figured I’d apply the same rules to my all white card as I do when making a monochromatic card…layers and lots of texture!!   I glittered some of the embossed snowflakes with dazzling diamond glitter from Stampin’ Up!  EVERYTHING is covered in glitter now; me, my craft room …

Falling Sage Leaves

It’s time for a Crafty Creations challenge!  This week the challenge is hosted by Shelly, and she has asked us to create something with Autumn/leaves in mind.  I’m sure you’ll have no problem making projects with leaves at this time of year!! I hope you’ll join us!   PAPER BLOOMS is our sponsor this week so you won’t want to miss it! For my card I’ve included two other challenges, being inspired by both!  The color challenge at SCS today asked for pretty in pink, sage shadow and going gray.  The Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge asked us to “go outside of the frame”!   This is what I came up with tonight when I finally had some time to stamp. I had fun making the background for this! The frame is cut with Labels One Nesties and popped up on dimensional foam adhesive.  I’ve cut the stamped leaves from pink card stock and positioned them so that they seem to be coming out of the frame.  What do you think of the  background?  I stamped it …
