What’s in the Mystery Box?

Posted by Deena on November 9, 2009

Hi everyone!!

I’m SUPER excited because on Friday I received a MYSTERY BOX of products and unusual items and a challenge (should I choose to accept it…) from CUSTOM CROPS!!  This is the 2nd mystery box challenge that they have had and since I’m on the design team, I was asked if I would like to take on the challenge. Well of course!!  I can’t say NO to a good challenge! You can see the last Mystery Challenge projects at Custom Crops; they are wonderful!

Mystery Box 30

WHAT’S IN THE BOX???

There are 7 items and we have to use all 7 in some way in our final projects.  5 of these items are craft type products from CUSTOM CROPS, but two are truly baffling when thinking of using them in a craft project!!  Last time, they mystery challenge takers had to use a can of soda!

I’ll give you a clue for one of the items I will have to use…you can eat it for breakfast!!??

Well you will just have to wait and see what I come up with for this super fun challenge!  My brain has been in overdrive! lol  I will have to upload it by Monday November 16th!! That’s only one week away, so I better get on it.  So are you curious?  I hope you’ll come back next Monday when I will reveal what was in the box and what I made with all of it.   I will do my best to make it FABULOUS!!

I do have a card to share today too…

Under the Mistletoe Christmas w 30I used Webster’s Pages papers (Holiday Collection combo pack) layered on blue bayou card stock.  The base is very vanilla card stock. The bird is a felt sticker decorative element from SEI (Winter Song).  I used a Stampin’ Up!  (Best Yet) sentiment.

I’ve made this card for Stampin’ B challenge: Make a Christmas card

Thanks for stopping by today!!

A Holiday Snowman and my first Video!

Posted by Deena on November 8, 2009

Hi friends, today I have a little snowman holiday card to show you, and my first ever Video How Too!! Please be kind as it’s my first attempt…Hopefully I’ll get better at it!

I used a Sizzix Simple Impressions embossing folder in my Cuttlebug.  These are a little different as they come in a plastic folder with a brass template on one side and the plastic impression plate on the other. I am happy to say that it worked just fine!  At first i wasn’t sure if I should remove the brass plate and use it alone with my cuttlebug plates, or use the whole plastic folder as it was intended.  I had seen a video from CropStop HERE, that used just the brass template and a texturz mat.  I found that by keeping the brass template in the folder, it eliminated the need for the mat.  You might like to try both methods to see what works for you.  But first, here’s the card.

A Blue Holiday for Peggy w 30

The snowman is from a Disney cuttlebug cut and emboss  folder called winter play. I cut and embossed him once with white card stock, then on blue bayou card stock.  Then, I just had to cut out the hat and scarf to add to the white snowman.  I colored the eyes and carrot nose with my copics.  See how I positioned the tip of his nose with the snowflake? I thought it had a magical look …you know like this little Frosty could come to life! ;)

O.k, lets here what you think!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a creative day!!

A Little Cup of Happy Hot Cocoa Holder

Posted by Deena on November 4, 2009

A Little Cup of Happy w 30

Crafty Creations challenge #40 is to make something with a pull out feature! FUN!

FRESH BREWED DESIGNS is our fabulous sponsor who let us DT members choose from her digital images to work with this week! They are absolutely adorable!

I’m also entering this into the  Die Cut Dreams challenge for the theme of FOOD or DRINK.

A Little Cup of Happy pull out w 30

I decided to make a hot cocoa holder for my pull out feature.  Great for those little pick me up gifts for someone sick this winter (a cup of soup packet would work well) or a sweet treat for anyone! :)   I colored the Freshly Brewed image with colorful sharpie markers.  The sentiment is a UNITY stamp from the Hodgepodge of  Happiness set.  The pocket is made from chocolate chip card stock and the snowflakes are  leftover from a borderabilities die cut and some punched flakes  too. I used my nestabilities scalloped rectangle die cuts to frame the image and popped it up on dimensional foam tape.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!

Spread the Love Blog Hop!!

Posted by Deena on November 2, 2009

SpreadTheLoveSendACard

If you are coming from Peggy Russell’s blog

then you are headed in the right direction. Your next stop along the way to spreading the love is

Kim Teasdale’s blog

Just as despair is brought down on one human being by another, hope too can be restored to one, through the love of others.

On October 4th, 4 teenagers armed with knives broke into a home in a small town in New Hampshire. These 4 boys broke into this home with the intent to rob and kill anyone inside. They stabbed Kimberly Cates to death and left her daughter, Jaimie, for dead in the driveway. Jaime’s father was away at the time. It was a completely random act; their home was chosen only due to its secluded surroundings.

This is the horrifying news that was brought to my attention by my blogging friend Ann, last week. I could not sleep that night and found myself actually wishing I had not heard this story of Jaime and her family. I have a very hard time dealing with the emotions that come with hearing of anyone’s pain or suffering especially at the hands of such evil. I felt it deeply. When I thought more about it, I felt even more awful when I realized I wanted to “turn a blind eye” to it.  When Ann first told me about the blog hop that Denise and Erin were planning, my first thought was, how will cards help this girl now?   But of course I realize that it’s not the cards, but the powerful unity of love behind them, that might send Jaime and her father a reminder that hope and love does exist in their suddenly darkened world.   If a blog hop will help do that, then participating is a small yet positive action I can take to help them.

For Jamie w 30

Erin Bailey and Denise Lynn started this blog hop in response to a plea for help from Erin’s long time friend who is also Jaimie Cates’ neighbor.

Erin and Denise hope that everyone hopping around today will stop for a moment and think about Jaimie and her father and what life must be like for them now. One moment in time has changed their lives forever. They are asking that everyone reading this message please take some time to make a card and send it off to Jaimie. Please share some words of hope and love and let her know that people do care and want the best for her.

If you’re wondering what kind of card you should make, here’s a little bit about Jaimie: “Jaimie is not really a girlie girl, but she does like hot pink and black. She likes outdoor activities such as biking, skateboarding, razor rip stick, snowboarding, and karate. As you may have read, she is a black belt in karate.”

Please send your card to the address at the top of this post.

Thanks for joining us in this very special blog hop!!

If you have lost your way, or have just heard about this blog hop, head over to http://spreadthelove-forjaimie.blogspot.com/ for a full list of participating blogs in this hop, as well as all other info for the hop.

I will be giving away a Flourishes Wreaths of All Seasons set, to one randomly selected person who chooses to send a card to Jaime.  Please leave a comment here on this post, and include a link to the card that you intend to send to Jaimie, via Mister Linky below.  The winner will be named on Monday the 9th of November.  This giveaway is now closed.  A winner has been chosen via Random.org!

Flourishes is one of my favorite stamp companies, and I wanted to mention that it is due to their generosity that I even have this set to share with you today!  It was sent to me in error, but when I told them of it, they said I could keep it and do what I wished with it!!   I would like to pass it on to one of you, in the same spirit it was given. Thank you Flourishes!!

Well, if you are still with me and reading this, thanks for sticking it out to the end of this very long post!  Thank you too, for helping spread a little love today!!

Rose Wreath Inspiration

Posted by Deena on October 31, 2009

I am up late again, but I wanted to quickly post this card because i may not have time later in the day as it is Halloween!  My boys have a Halloween party in the afternoon, and I have to fill all the bags for our trick or treaters;  I just know the day is going to fly by.

So, on to the card I made for the inspiration challenge that was posted on SCS.  I was inspired today by the Franz Porcelain rose cup and saucer from Precious Possessions.

IMG_9419 Wreath of Roses CAS w 30

This is also for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenge # 39 to use a border.  I used the Martha Stewart punch border, and the inside of the card front is lined with chocolate card stock.  The wreath is from Flourishes A Wreath for all Seasons set. I’ve colored it in with Copics, and layered it on Labels Four nestabilities die cuts.

Would you like to have a chance at having this set for yourself? It may be as easy as making a card! Meet me back here on Monday for a very special blog hop!!  Over 60 blogs will be involved in this special card drive, including many great sponsors!  I will be giving away this beautiful Flourishes stamp set here, so please come and see what’s going on!  If you would like a head start on what it’s all about, head on over to this BLOG.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!
